Pacers poised to shock the world with 97-74 victory
by Steve Mitchell Jun 5, 2002
The Indiana Pacers are in position to be only the third 8th seed in NBA history to defeat a #1 seed in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. Lead by strong performances by Ron Artest and Austin Croshere, the Pacers balanced scoring attack and team offense dismantled the Net defense. Six Pacers scored in double figures and the Pacers outrebounded the Nets 42-30. NBA MVP candidate Jason Kidd was held to ten points in perhaps the most complete game the Pacers have played all year. "The pressure and the expectations are all on New Jersey," said Pacer head coach Isiah Thomas. The Pacers opened the series by beating the Nets in New Jersey in game one. Decisive game five will be played Thursday night in New Jersey.
