New store at the Whitegate Mall
by Egor S Grand Feb 26, 2003

Reports continue to reveal that consumers have a lack of confidence in the economy. This reality has hit various sectors of landscape, including the retail arena. Malls are especially vulnerable, as store owners decry the lack of a buying traffic. This is especially so with Whitegate Mall on the city"s Northside. Numerous stores have left Whitegate for presumably greener pastures, leaving the mall with many dormant stores. Whitegate"s pursuit for an "anchor store," to shore up the foundation of its retail emporium, has proved futile in recent months. Until now. Whitegate Mall Manager Floyd Debubnick held a press conference yesterday, announcing the arrival of a new shop at Whitegate. "We"re thrilled to tell you," Debubnick told the assembled crowd, "that All Things Nautical and More will move into our mall by the end of the month. We"re looking forward to our business relationship with this exciting and innovative store." All Things Nautical and More, according to Debubnick, will feature a number of items for the sea-faring consumer, including, most notably, "a vast section of anchors. "They"ll have everything you"ve always wanted for your ships, but never knew where to get them," Debubnick continued. "Plus, with its outreach commitment to the public, they"ll be holding workshops on trimming the sail and a terrific seminar on knot-tying." When a reporter pointed out that Indianapolis is in fact land-locked, with nary a body of water big enough for a ship, Debubnick replied, "Well, one mustn"t overlook the metaphorical element here. Whitegate has long been searching for an anchor store - now we"ve got it, literally and figuratively." All Things Nautical and More will open its doors on the last Saturday of the month with a grand opening party. Scheduled appearances include local performing artist Frank Hinkum as Black Beard.
