Four stars

Easily the coolest Mormon to ever pick up a guitar and call it love, Low’s Alan Sparhawk spreads his wings with this rocked-up side project, produced by Sun Kil Moon’s Mark Kozelek. Dirty, loud, resonating guitar in hand, Sparhawk sounds like anything but a minimalist here as he and his power trio riff their way through a mix of both new songs and Low standards, most of which work very well as holdover tunes until the next Low classic. Mimi, you’re missed.

Sounds like:
Great guitars and production hoisting up a familiar voice.
