ShadowApe transforms Anne Sexton
by Editors Jul 16, 2008

Productions by ShadowApe Theatre Company are like seasonal fruits: They come along briefly and just once a year, but when they do … the experience lingers on.

ShadowApe’s newest work is an original adaptation of poet Anne Sexton’s collection Transformations. In these poems, Sexton retells some well-known Grimm’s fairy tales from the perspective of “a middle-aged witch, me.”

The 90-minute production opens July 18 at Butler University’s Studio Theatre 328 in Lilly Hall and closes July 27. Performances are Thursdays and Sundays at 7 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 ($15 for children 12-18 and students) and may be charged through the company’s Web site (www.shadowape.com) or purchased at Monon Coffee Company, 920 Westfield Blvd. Tickets may also be charged via Ticket Web at 1-866-468-3401. Thursday, July 17 at 7 p.m. a preview performance will be held; admission is free with a donation of rice or pasta to benefit Second Helpings.
