The Slip has always had a way of catching the eyes of veteran bands like the Allman Brothers and Phish. In 2000, the band signed onto the Allman Brothers’ label, Flying Frog Records, to make the album Does. Phish then helped the band release Angels Come on Time in 2002. But for The Slip, the plants of jam music have been uprooted by the attractive freedoms of independent rock. Its latest CD, Eisenhower, showcases the band’s evolution with traces of European techno. Other songs ring similar to the likes of Elliot Smith.

Matthew Ellard, who’s worked with Smith, co-produced Eisenhower two years after working on Smith’s From a Basement on a Hill. Ellard and The Slip lace the album with an edgier emotion and a darker feel, both seldom heard in the world of jam.

The Slip’s newest label, Bar/None, includes mentionables like They Might be Giants. Canadian-label Studio Plateau Records even recently made Eisenhower available for purchase across the country. Their international tour includes guests Gringo Star, Brighton MA and Backyard Tire Fire. The Slip will stop at Indy CD & Vinyl on March 15 and the Music Mill later that evening.
