A Chorus of Hits
3.5 stars
Northwest Airlines Pops Series
Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra
Hilbert Circle Theatre
March 7-9

Jack Everly conducted the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and Indianapolis Symphonic Choir in a challenging program stretching from pop to film to classical, showcasing the best about both organizations.

The choir, prepared under the direction of Dr. Eric Stark, featured crisp enunciation and a resounding fullness that pleased equally for the rousing “O Fortuna Impeeriatrix Mundi” from Carmina burana by Carl Orff and the gorgeously undulating “Humming Chorus” from Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.

A delightful surprise was the almost never performed choir rendition of Tchaikovsky’s 1812, Overture solennelle, Op. 49.
