The Indiana Society of Professional Journalists handed out the 2008 Best in Indiana awards last Friday for print, radio and television. NUVO was well represented by its award-winning artists, designers, critics, writers and interns again this year. 

Best Deadline Reporting (non-daily newspaper)
Jim Poyser, Andy Jacobs Jr., Mari Evans, David Hoppe and Fran Quigley, first place, “In Memoriam: A Jewel Called Julia”
Judges comments: “Poyser et al put together a moving tribute with interesting perspectives on an unforgettable character.”

Laura McPhee, second place “Politics, Property Taxes and Protests”

Susan Neville, first place, “UFO Sex Cult Sues IUPUI”
Judges comments: “Though the style is sometimes self-indulgent, the subject and tone eventually converge, and the piece ends up working well.”
