I saw Spider-Man 3 for the second time tonight, and because I ate too much garbage at the show, I'm up with a painful stomach and can't go to bed for a while. So...you get my take on the film.
Spoilers follow...go away if you haven't seen it yet...

Who knew a candy bar ad could rile people?
Snickers' Super Bowl ad, which depicted two mechanics eating a candy bar and accidentally kissing Lady-and-the-Tramp style, has brought fire from the left, where many viewers saw the ad as "homophobic."

I sent this to the Muncie Star Press. I doubt it'll run, so here it is.

So the Oscar nominations were announced, and like a lot of people, I have stuff to say.
I concern myself with three major categories: best picture, best director, and best original screenplay. I teach screenwriting so that last one is where I have the most interest. The others are more stabbing in the dark than anything.
I'm no film authority. I'm just pulling for certain things.

Movies about 9/11 really rankle me.
I was one of those folks who said Paul Greengrass' United 93 and Oliver Stone's World Trade Center weren't necessary...at least not yet. I still haven't seen either, and I don't want to do so. Yet.

Former Unelected Replacement President Temp Gerald Ford died a week ago.
America is still mourning.
I have to wonder: Is it because people just need something to do?

At La Casa del Juan, we have received a number of Christmas cards, mostly addressed to the girlfriend. (She's more popular. I'm just some asshole writer no one talks to unless forced.)

Today was a melange of visits to government buildings: first, the BMV, then the post office.
Historically, the BMV is a vicious, teeming, soulless, sucking hellhole of abject, tempestuous torment -- abandon all hope, all motorists who enter there, and prepare for eons to pass and missed birthdays and, what the hell, put a roast in the oven before you go.

Michael Richards' book and television show, "If I Hated Black People, Here's How I'd Do It," has been announced and immediately cancelled by Fox.
"Everyone knows I don't hate black people, but this book and television project would have illustrated how I would hate black people," Richards said.
