Where the hell is Johnny Socko. You can ask any college student from the last 15 years and everyone knows Socko. Does NUVO have some grudge against the Socko? I've read tons of Nuvos' and Socko never gets mentioned. EVER. They were the best bar band in Indy if you wanted to PARTY. Probably not if you wanted to knit.

What about a piece on Ed Johnson-Ott's old band The Future? We know what Ed is doing, but what about the rest of the band?
Trying to remember more of the bands of the 78-82 Crazy Al's era...."Your Parents" "Hoosier Daddies" "Latex Novelties" "Race Records" "The Positions", Crazy Al's was crazy fun!
... a band I was pleasantly surprised to see on your family tree. My first day in Bloomington (circa 1992), I saw them play a free show in Dunn Meadow. It was about 3pm and I think they were drunk. The drummer kept his mouth open thru the entire set and drool was flung everywhere. I've been looking for a record ever since, but all I've managed is a cut off 'Live from Bloominton.' Heard they moved to Chicago after that, but I never saw 'em again.
"the" most under-rated and overlooked band, not only in Broad Ripple, but Indy, period. Tom "Geeves" Downs is the tightest son of a bitch on skins that I've ever heard and its damn shame not to see them perform around here at all anymore. Sure, kudos to Mahern for the ZeroBoys reunions around town, but what about getting Q, Geeves, Lee, Vess and Mahern together for the original Datura Seeds again? I ended up putting their demos tape and album onto my own CD-R so I could listen to them time and again.

Would've been great to see a profile on this most excellent Indy band. I have wonderful memories of seeing them at The Patio, The Athenaeum Turners (sp?) & Butler back in the early nineties. Their EP "The Washing Machine Tape" is fantastic - seek it out for some great, original, Indy music. Rock!
Tess:-)
This is great, thanks for this. Bands like the Vulgar Boatmen and United States Three made the 90's pretty enjoyable.
Hopefully rest of the the Pieces, Those Young Lions, Only Children, show was filmed or recorded for possible release or sharing.

Wow! What a fantastic project! Reading through the band names and listening to some of the old tracks reminded me of a huge part of my life i had almost forgotten about! Keep up the great work of bringing nostalgic musical moments to us 30-somethings & 40-somethings...
Couple of comments/questions:
1. Are you selling posters or reprints of the indy family tree? You should! I would definitely buy! How about a few autographed limited editions?
2. As far as the INTERACTIVE part of the tree, it would be lots easier if you had to click on the band name to hear the song as opposed to just hovering. It made it really difficult to navigate and explore without constantly switching songs! (just my 2 cents!)
3. I didn't know what a indy music groupie i was back in the day until I realized how many of the bands i knew, and had since forgotten! ...Planet Earth, Pony Boy, STranded at the Drive In, El Nino, Mudkids, etc. etc. ...
i got one for you--How about the Plastic Cheeses out of Bloomington?
You guys rock! Keep it up!

Thanks for your comments! We appreciate them.... As you can imagine, summing up the entire history of the Indianapolis music scene could fill up a book series. So, these are just highlights. A second installment of this product will be published in Fall 2007. If you'd like to contribute some ideas, e-mail wherearetheynow@nuvo.net.
Thanks!
Yeah, Laura, I hear you! I love my subscription to Nuvo as well. I moved to the East Coast 22 years ago and like keeping up on the Indy music scene as well. I get back there to see some of my family once in a while and would really love to go "back to my roots." And Henry Lee jammed! Having worked at both the Vogue and the Patio (back in the olden days) there were TONS of great bands that I had the pleasure of listening to and I sometimes wonder what they are all up to in their "old age."
I love Nuvo and have an online subscription and I alway look forward to Wednesdays. I moved to Missouri four years ago and it keeps me up to date with Indy. I take exception though to the article "Where are they now" because it leaves out more than was put in. What about the Rods and Cones or Thrustt or Push Down and Turn? How about all the music venues like the Vogue, Razz MaTazz, Bentley's, The Enterprise. Even Piccadilly's used to have great concerts. Yeah great you got Roadmaster and The Why Store and the Patio. What about Henry Lee Summer? Come on guys dig a little.
